Truck loses load

A truck travelling toward Waiau transporting recycled material left its mark when it lost its load on a corner on the Inland Rd last week.

The Lawrence Transport truck was on its way to Christchurch carrying recycling material from Innovative Waste Kaiko¯ura.

Waste material was moved to the side of the road and cones placed around the area just past Charwell Forks near Stag and Spey.

Innovative Waste Kaiko¯ura manager Nicholas Pang said the contractor’s truck left the yard at the Kaiko¯ura landfill about 3pm.

About 75 per cent of the landfill waste is taken to recycling centres throughout New Zealand.

Pang said having no cellphone coverage on the road was a problem.

‘‘It’s necessary to have a phone signal on the road.

‘‘We send recycled materials all over the country and we have a lot of vehicles going through and it’s a bit of a worry for us.’’

A spokesperson from the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery alliance (NCTIR) said the waste had been removed from the site by midafternoon.
