Crafts on show

Tawa Arts & Crafts So­ci­ety is host­ing a crafts show at the Tawa Com­mu­nity Cen­tre this Satur­day.

About 20 stall­hold­ers are tak­ing part, sell­ing a va­ri­ety of home­made items in­clud­ing leather work, teddy bears, jew­ellery, knit­ting, patch­work, bob and lace, ce­ram­ics, gift cards, paint­ings and wood turned items. There will also be demon­stra­tions and work­shops.

Tawa Arts & Crafts So­ci­ety be­gan in 1969, borne out of an art class at Tawa Col­lege, says pres­i­dent Aileen Wood.

‘‘Peo­ple got to­gether and de­cided to hold an ex­hi­bi­tion and it started from there,’’ she says.

It has about 20 mem­bers. How­ever, re­cent in­ter­est in crafts has at­tracted some new blood and more crafters are wel­come.
