First re­cip­i­ent

For­mer Mana Col­lege dux and deputy head boy An­drew Davis is the first re­cip­i­ent of the Buster Thomas Me­mo­rial Schol­ar­ship.

Buster Thomas, a phar­ma­cist from Porirua who spent his lat­ter years work­ing in John­sonville, do­nated funds to the New Zealand Phar­macy Ed­u­ca­tion and Re­search Foun­da­tion to es­tab­lish a schol­ar­ship to al­low a Porirua stu­dent to study phar­macy at Otago Uni­ver­sity.

Mr Thomas and his wife Mau­reen saw many ca­pa­ble stu­dents in the Porirua area who were un­able to move on to uni­ver­sity stud­ies.

Af­ter com­plet­ing col­lege in 2008, Mr Davis took his pas­sion for sci­ence to Otago, where he com­pleted the first year of the health sci­ence pro­gramme in 2009 and was this year ac­cepted into the Otago School of Phar­macy.
