A fam­ily re­union for de­scen­dants of Robert Jil­lett, a whaler who lived on Kapiti Is­land in the late 1830s, is be­ing held in Porirua on Jan­uary 8-9, 2011.

Robert Jil­lett mar­ried Te Tara the daugh­ter of Enaia Te Morere (Ngati Raukawa). They had six chil­dren, James, Char­lotte, John, Su­san, Wil­liam and Robert. James died in 1859 and the other five chil­dren mar­ried. John lived in Otaki and Fox­ton, Char­lotte and Wil­liam lived in Ti­tahi Bay, Su­san lived in In­gle­wood and Robert lived in Otaki.

Any per­son with the sur­name: Jil­lett, White­house, Wind­ley, Roth­ery, Ben­nett, Beere, Rickus, Spiers, Ogilvie, His­lop, Moore, Thurston, Richards, Short, Vine, Ar­res or Bell in their fam­ily tree may be re­lated to Robert Jil­lett and, as such, are wel­come to at­tend the fam­ily re­union.
