WHITBY: Constable Simon Bygate says during the school holidays there were a couple of burglaries of rural properties around the HaywardsJudgeford area, and a few cases of thefts from cars in Papakowhai because people are still leaving valuable in their cars overnight.

On a positive note, he says an observant Whitby resident noticed a man wearing a high visibility vest acting suspiciously on a property.

‘‘She called police and kept observing him. He saw her and legged it before police arrived but I am sure she foiled a burglary. So just a reminder that not all workmen are authentic, so always be on your guard.’’

TITAHI BAY: The Bay is having on-going issues with off-road motorcycles being driven on the road, says Constable Hemi Tito.

‘‘It is a requirement firstly that all motorcycles that are ridden on a road be warranted and registered, and secondly that the rider has a current motorcycle licence.’’

Anything other than this could result in the motorcycle being impounded and/ or infringement notices issued to the rider. In some cases this is a safety issue for pedestrians as the motorbikes are being ridden on footpaths. Residents are encouraged to contact Mr Tito if they have any questions.

MANA: Several cars had their tyres slashed in the Mana View Rd area in Camborne on September 24, says Constable Jonathan Westrupp.

‘‘I am told that there were at least eight cars involved. The circumstances suggest that whoever did this was travelling on foot and may very well have been travelling home. I would like to know [whose vehicles] were involved so they can be followed up as appropriate.’’

Meanwhile, a red Honda 320 quad bike was stolen from a rural property on Grays Rd on September 2. Mr Westrupp is seeking information that may lead to it being returned to its rightful owner. Phone 439 0606.
