Dog day out fun for all

New Zealand’s biggest family dog event, the Champ Wag ‘ n’ Walk Family Fun Day, will make its Wellington debut at Waitangi Park on Sunday.

The Wellington event comes hot on the heels of a successful Auckland show in which 1400 dogs and about 3000 owners took part.

The Wellington Wag ‘n’ Walk lineup includes a dog talent contest, face painting and bouncy castle. There’s also the cutest, tallest, shortest, oldest dog competitions and loads more to keep those tails wagging from 8.30am till 1.30pm. A three kilometre mass dog walk leads off at 10.30am.

Event organiser Scott Rice cites the dog and owner food eating relay as amongst the more ‘‘colorful’’ items on the schedule.

‘‘Think lots of mess, lots of laughter and some serious competitors’’, says Mr Rice.

‘‘We’re thrilled to be able to support Paw Justice as the event charity partner and encourage those attending to either purchase on the day or bring along a can of pet food for the Paw Justice Pet Food Bank,’’ he says.

Ticket holders go home with their own Champ Doggy Bag containing a Champ dog bowl and other treats. Online registrations go into the draw to win one of three, one-year supplies of Champ dog food. Tickets can be bought from wagnwalk.co.nz or on the day.

Kapi-Mana News has three family passes to the Wag ‘n’ Walk Family Fun Day to give away to readers. To enter email editor@kmananews.co.nz with your name and daytime contact details by midday Thursday, October 28. Write ‘‘Family Fun Day Contest’’ in the subject line.
