An unprovoked assault in Champion St recently has police calling for witnesses.

About 6.35pm on November 17, a pedestrian was approached on the bend near Mepham Pl.

The victim was punched from behind and pushed to the ground, apparently for no reason.

Police are looking for a Polynesian or Maori male, who was wearing an olive green hooded sweatshirt with a picture of a playing card on the lefthand chest, and black jeans.

He was about 1.76 metres tall, of medium to solid build, with shoulder-length messy black hair, and a cut or scar on his bottom lip.

Constable Peter Reeves says Porirua police are interested in hearing from anyone who may know who the attacker is.
