Free help offered by bank
Local bank staff nationwide will swap their suits for overalls and give their time and effort to good causes in March, and now is the time for those good causes to make bids for their help.
BNZ banks around the country will be ‘‘Closed for Good’’ on March 9 and requests for help from community groups or individuals are now being solicited.
The Closed for Good initiative will entail more than 3500 BNZ staff closing their stores and offices and volunteering for community work for a day.
Staff have two days of paid leave for voluntary work every year. They can use this leave individually, but the initiative will put them together in teams so they can make a difference collectively.
BNZ chief executive Andrew Thorburn said last year the bank received 858 submissions from community groups across New Zealand. ‘‘We’re hoping that even more staff will be involved this year.’’
To make a request go to closedforgood.org before January 26.
