A ‘magical’ day for the kids
A huge number of deserving children received early Christmas gifts from Santa at the Special Children’s Christmas Party in Porirua.
Sponsored by The Radio Network, the parties – also held in a number of other centres across the country – aim to give disabled and disadvantaged children a Christmas celebration to remember.
The event, in its 10th year, is supported by local businesses across New Zealand.
The Wellington party was at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on November 27. About 1800 children enjoyed bouncy castles, face painting, a merry-go-round, and presents from Santa and his helpers.
Local business supporters of the event, Irene Noval of Specsavers Lower Hutt and Claire Chambers of Specsavers Porirua, were blown away by the day and said it was fantastic to see the kids enjoying themselves.
‘‘The day was so well-organised; there was a cave full of presents that the kids just loved,’’ Ms Norval said. ‘‘It was a great way for local businesses to give back to the community [and] magical to see their little faces light up when they got their new doll, puzzle or action toy.’’
