A fun day at the cro­quet

Seven cro­quet clubs from across the re­gion came to­gether in Plim­mer­ton re­cently for the lo­cal club’s an­nual Cro­quet Ole tour­na­ment.

The tour­na­ment com­prised a full com­ple­ment of 32 play­ers, and the tone of the day was light­hearted. Play­ers changed part­ners for each of the six rounds of play.

Plim­mer­ton club pres­i­dent Pat Wil­son did the hon­ours when it came to the prize­giv­ing, pre­sent­ing awards for the fol­low­ing top score achieve­ments:

Over­all best score – Kelvin Wat­son, Plim­mer­ton; A grade – Cathy Light, Waimarie/ Khan­dal­lah; B grade – Mau­reen Reid, Kel­burn; C grade – Jenny Cullen, Plim­mer­ton.

There were also spe­cial prizes for shots of bril­liance or just plain luck. These went to Plim­mer­ton’s Pam Suther­land, Sue White, Jan Watkins and Ken Ford, and Jenny La­timer of Kel­burn.

Wil­son expressed the thanks of all present to club cap­tain Carolyn Rait for the or­gan­i­sa­tion of the day’s play.

The club’s on­go­ing weekly pro­gramme is now in full swing, and fea­tures two ses­sions of as­so­ci­a­tion cro­quet on Tues­days, Thurs­days and Satur­days, at 9.30am and 1pm. Golf cro­quet is played on Wed­nes­days and Sun­days, at 1.15pm, and on Fri­days at 10am.

The club’s next ma­jor in­vi­ta­tion event is the John Burke Spon­sored Tour­na­ment, an as­so­ci­a­tion cro­quet event sched­uled for Fe­bru­ary 12. For fur­ther in­for­ma­tion, con­tact Pat Wil­son 234 8779.
