A fun day at the croquet
Seven croquet clubs from across the region came together in Plimmerton recently for the local club’s annual Croquet Ole tournament.
The tournament comprised a full complement of 32 players, and the tone of the day was lighthearted. Players changed partners for each of the six rounds of play.
Plimmerton club president Pat Wilson did the honours when it came to the prizegiving, presenting awards for the following top score achievements:
Overall best score – Kelvin Watson, Plimmerton; A grade – Cathy Light, Waimarie/ Khandallah; B grade – Maureen Reid, Kelburn; C grade – Jenny Cullen, Plimmerton.
There were also special prizes for shots of brilliance or just plain luck. These went to Plimmerton’s Pam Sutherland, Sue White, Jan Watkins and Ken Ford, and Jenny Latimer of Kelburn.
Wilson expressed the thanks of all present to club captain Carolyn Rait for the organisation of the day’s play.
The club’s ongoing weekly programme is now in full swing, and features two sessions of association croquet on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, at 9.30am and 1pm. Golf croquet is played on Wednesdays and Sundays, at 1.15pm, and on Fridays at 10am.
The club’s next major invitation event is the John Burke Sponsored Tournament, an association croquet event scheduled for February 12. For further information, contact Pat Wilson 234 8779.
