Still here in spirit
Jenny Brash can now watch over proceedings in Porirua City Council’s debating chamber without being there in person.
Ms Brash, mayor of the city for four terms and a councillor since 1983, had her official portrait unveiled last Wednesday night.
It has been placed next to paintings of previous mayors Whitford Brown and John Burke.
Darcy Nicholas, PCC’s general manager of community services, said Kapiti artist Ken Hunt captured perfectly ‘‘Jenny’s personality, energy and warmth’’.
Ms Brash told the new council it was an honour to be placed in such ‘‘august company’’.
‘‘I did enjoy my time [at the portrait sitting], it was not as painful as I thought it would be. I will be able to keep an eye on things in here now.’’
New portrait: In keeping with the tradition bestowed on former mayors, a portrait of Jenny Brash was unveiled in the council chamber last week.
