Faafoi’s fi­nal mar­gin wider

New Mana MP Kris Faafoi stretched his ma­jor­ity by 300 votes when the fi­nal count for the Mana by­elec­tion was an­nounced re­cently.

Tak­ing into ac­count spe­cial votes, Mr Faafoi re­ceived a to­tal of 10,980 votes.

That was 1406 more than Na­tional can­di­date Hekia Parata, with 9574.

The Green Party’s Jan Lo­gie re­ceived 1543 votes and Matt McCarten 849.

There were 43,556 peo­ple en­rolled at the time of the by-elec­tion.

A to­tal of 23,834 or 54.72 per cent cast their votes.

There were 2467 ad­vance votes and 1446 spe­cial votes, in­clud­ing 51 from over­seas.

The Elec­toral Com­mis­sion was ex­pect­ing to re­turn to­day the writ show­ing Mr Faafoi as the suc­cess­ful can­di­date.

The re­sults by polling place are avail­able at elec­tion­re­sults.govt.nz.
