Tawa’s Red Hackle Pipe Band is on the winning trail and ‘‘it feels good’’, says pipe major Angus Campbell.

The band trumped seven bands in their grade to take home the top prize at the Turakina Highland Games near Wanganui on January 29.

Red Hackle won the march, strathspey and reel (MSR) and the medley sections at the competition.

The latest trophies add to a number of prizes the pipe band has won recently, including a first and two second placings at the nationals in Palmerston North in December.

‘‘The band’s in great shape. We really stepped up our game this year and we’re doing well.

‘‘In previous years we’d place in the top four, but now we’re coming first and second which is great,’’ says Mr Campbell.

An open day attracted about 50 people to the club’s headquarters at Redwood Station in Tawa recently.

For more information about the club contact Mr Campbell on 234 8514.
