Stand­out stand-ups

You’ve seen them on tele­vi­sion, now see them stand up to a lo­cal crowd.

Nick Rado and James Nokise have pledged to bring well­known co­me­di­ans to the Mon­teith’s Bar in Pare­mata ev­ery month for the next year – and first up is Ray­bon Kan.

Rado says: ‘‘We feel that push­ing new tal­ent, plus of­fer­ing Mana res­i­dents a chance to see top qual­ity ‘As seen on TV’ co­me­di­ans at com­pet­i­tive­lypriced shows is al­ways go­ing to at­tract a good re­sponse from co­me­di­ans and the pub­lic alike.’’

The two comics will or­gan­ise the shows un­der the moniker of In­ter­na­tional Stand-Up. Rado, who grew up in Ti­tahi Bay and is nom­i­nated for a 2011 Billy T Award, has pro­duced com­edy shows for fringe fes­ti­vals in Eng­land and Scot­land.

Kan will head­line to­mor­row night’s show. He has been a fa­mil­iar face on the Kiwi stand-up cir­cuit for many years and wrote the best­selling book An Asian at my Ta­ble. The for­mer lawyer has per­formed in­ter­na­tion­ally at com­edy fes­ti­vals in­clud­ing Edinburgh and Mon­treal.

The bill will also fea­ture Rado, James Nokise (from TV2’s Com­edy Gala) and Cameron Mur­ray.
