Busy time for Plimmerton croquet players
February has been a busy month for the Plimmerton Croquet Club, capped off by its John Burke Tournament.
The competition was held on February 12, and won by Wayne Gair in the senior section, and Doug Van Belle in the juniors. John Burke has sponsored the event for the past 12 years and was on hand to present prizes.
Earlier in the month Plimmerton was represented by Pat Wilson and Patsy Williamson, and Kelvin Watson and Ross Williamson, in the inaugural Cherrington Trophy golf croquet event, played between Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Plimmerton clubs. Plimmerton and Para- paraumu each won six games but on countback Paraparaumu won the trophy by two hoops.
At the Wellington Croquet Association championships, Chris Cambourn won the 0-3 bisque singles., Wayne Gair was runner-up in the 4-9 bisque singles and with Dianne McDonald won the junior doubles.
Wendy Betteridge and Tom Berryman have been invited to participate in the national event for low bisque players, this week in Auckland.
