An enthusiastic, miscast classic

Kapi-Mana News - - ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT -

Mana Little Theatre has a midwinter treat in store this month, with their adaptation of A Christmas Carol and servings of mulled wine likely to warm your heart.

The stalwart ladies (and helpers) of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild are taking over the stage at Mana Little Theatre and presenting their version of A Christmas Carol. It is certainly an interpretation of this classic story you will never have seen before, according to director Sue Mortimer.

Although enthusiasm does seem to outstrip their thespian abilities, they will valiantly attempt to portray a wide array of our favourite Dickensian characters from this story.

Unfortunately, nothing will run smoothly and the cast could be forced to contend with an intrusive PA system, incompetent stagehands and failing scenery.

Plus there is an ongoing rivalry between the two main actors.

Under Mortimer’s direction, the cast of Sonia Enoka, Yvonne Fisher, Tabatha Atoa-Jakobs, Anita Vogt and Craig Haywood will be members and helpers of the guild, playing assorted and sometimes miscast roles in A Christmas Carol. Additional voices and ‘‘ stage crew’’ include Nate Holland-Kearins and Peter and Stephanie Drew.

Other ladies from the guild will be on hand each evening before the show to sell some of their delightful jams.

Glasses of wine, mulled wine and juice will also be available for purchase at the theatre.

Performance dates are from June 22 to July 2 at 8pm, with a matinee performance on June 26 at 2pm. Bookings are essential; phone 233 2557.

Patrons are requested to be at the theatre at least 15 minutes before the start of the show. Mana Little Theatre is on Sunset Parade, Plimmerton.

Naughty, naughty: Tiny Tim (Sonia Enoka) catches Mrs Cratchit (Craig Harwood) with some inappropriate reading material

during A Christmas Carol.
