While everyone else had a holiday, the Mungavin netball courts hosted the annual Majorie Jenden Tournament over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

The tournament has been held since 1980, the same year Mrs Jenden was appointed vicepresident of International Netball. The contest consisted of 20 netball teams, some of which had travelled from as far as Nelson.

Twelve of these teams played in the U-15 grade and eight in the U-17 grade. Wellington Black managed to win both grades. Local Sharnii Lintern played for Wellington Black’s U-17 team, and was also named ‘‘shooter of the match’’.

The Kapi-Mana team made the playoff for third and fourth, but lost in the dying seconds to Wellington Red.
