Free bus service on trial

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION - By ANDREA O’NEIL

Porirua East’s community bus service will run for free for two weeks to encourage regular users.

From yesterday, July 18, to Friday, July 29, the normal $ 3 to $ 4.50 fare will be waived by Greater Wellington Regional Council.

‘‘We want to give people an opportunity to try the service and we’re keen to know if they’d continue to use it after the free trail ends,’’ council spokesperson Philippa Lagan says.

The bus is usually free only to SuperGold Card holders.

Kapi-Mana News reported last week that the bus, which was introduced in February, would be cancelled unless it could attract an average four passengers per ride by October 15.

The bus operates like an airport shuttle, picking up and dropping off passengers from their homes.

It runs six times a day between Waitangirua and Kenepuru Hospital. To book a seat phone 910-5179.
