Flo­ral art club turns 21

Whitby Flo­ral Art Club cel­e­brated its 21st birth­day in style re­cently, with more than 100 peo­ple at­tend­ing a spe­cial pre­sen­ta­tion.

Guest demon­stra­tor for the af­ter­noon was Heather Hammond, past pres­i­dent of the Flo­ral Art So­ci­ety of NZ. She put to­gether 12 de­signs, shar­ing her knowl­edge and giv­ing tips as she worked, which drew ad­mi­ra­tion from ev­ery­one in at­ten­dance.

Peo­ple came from as far away as Bulls and Palmer­ston North for the oc­ca­sion.

‘‘We were hon­oured to have such an aus­pi­cious per­son visit us,’’ Whitby Flo­ral Art Club pres­i­dent Dorothy Gibbs said.

The club had 36 mem­bers and ‘‘ con­tinue to be in­spired to com­pete with cre­ative de­signs’’ each club day, she said. They meet on the last Mon­day of ev­ery month at Whitby Bowl­ing Club from 12.45pm.

The next club day is July 25 and will be fea­tur­ing ‘‘Greens are best’’ de­signs.
