Land­marks re­named

Some Welling­ton land­marks are to get new or al­ter­na­tive names un­der the set­tle­ment of a Wai­tangi treaty claim.

Un­der the Set­tle­ment Act, which set­tles the his­tor­i­cal claims of Taranaki Whanui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika’s claim in Welling­ton eight place names were changed.

Ngau­ranga Stream be­comes Waitohi Stream, Mount Mis­ery be­comes Mount Wai-ariki, Sin­clair Head be­comes Sin­clair Head/ Te Rimu­rapa, Red Rocks be­comes Pari­whero/Red Rocks, Ti­nakori Hill be­comes Te Ahu­mairangi Hill, Lowry Bay be­comes Whio­rau/ Lowry Bay, Baring Head be­comes Baring Head/Orua-pouanui and Steeple Rock will be Steeple Rock/Te Aroaro-o-Kupe.
