Rowing club opens up for new season
With summer approaching the Porirua Rowing Club is gearing up for another season.
For those who want to find out what rowing is all about, the club is offering a free learn-to-row course, conducted over four weeks on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Club spokesperson Matthew Hall says the course will provide basic instruction on competitive rowing technique and basic boat handling skills. It is designed for all ages and will begin September 10.
Participants will be taught to row by – as well as train with – Porirua Rowing Club’s championship-winning crews and coaches.
Those keen to continue will be invited to join the club’s training regime that involves advanced rowing technique and land-based fitness. This training regime is an excellent way to get fit or maintain fitness, says Hall.
Once members develop skill they will begin competing and crews good enough will also travel away to championship regattas throughout the country. For those who want to find out more, the club is holding open days this weekend, between 8am and 9am, also Tuesday nights from 5.30pm till 6.30pm. The club’s boat sheds are on the harbour foreshore in Onepoto Road, Titahi Bay.
