Wellington Pony Club has three branches (Pauatahanui, Makara, Onslow) with 140 members.

Shows or ‘‘rallies’’ are held about once a fortnight. The first show this season is on September 18.

The Eventing Talent ID sessions are of no cost to riders bar an arena fee. Riders nominate themselves and are selected by a WPC Committee.

Does it grate riders when folks claim: ‘‘The horse does all the work?’’ That’s how it should appear, says Gray. ‘‘The rider should be looking like they’re not doing anything, but they are doing a lot. It’s the hardest thing, to get horses to perform from subtle aids [hand/ leg gestures].’’
