New trains running
Wellington’s new Matangi trains have begun service on the Kapiti line. The trains have been running on the Hutt Valley line since May. The Korean-built trains first delivered Porirua’s morning peak-hour commuters on August 24, and since then have been working four nonpeak hour services a day. Forty-two of a total 96 cars have arrived in New Zealand, and this week Greater Wellington Regional Council hopes to put a 30th car into service. The trains have been plagued by delays, but are getting positive feedback, council chairwoman Fran Wilde says.
