Cargo comes on board as principal
Bishop Viard College’s board of trustees has appointed Teresa Cargo to be the school’s new principal.
Ms Cargo, the deputy principal at Sacred Heart Girls’ College in Hamilton, where she has taught for 30 years, will take on the role in the second week of term four, following the departure of Hedley Aiken, who is retiring after 15 years in the job.
Board of trustees chairwoman Marian Blackford says the appointment process attracted applicants of the highest quality, with many demonstrating leadership experience at the highest levels in Catholic education.
‘‘After a thorough appointment process, it is clear that Teresa’s skills and experience meet the current needs of our community.’’
A graduate of the Otago School of Physical Education and the Auckland College of Education, Ms Cargo is studying towards a masters degree in educational leadership. She has taught religious education, science, physical education and health.
Mrs Blackford says Ms Cargo has a wide range of leadership experience in a Catholic college and a strong background in pastoral care.
‘‘ Teresa has several years’ experience as a deputy principal and has had extended periods of time as a successful acting principal,’’ she said.
‘‘Through her leadership, [Teresa] will make a significant contribution to our college and students’ lives.’’
