WORTH A MENTION

Kapi-Mana News - - REVIEW -

Book: Not just books, comic books. DC comic books to be precise. This month the entire DC line, which includes the most famous names in the superhero pantheon – Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman – all rebooted back to No 1. This may be your only chance to ever own that pinnacle of comic collecting avarice, Action Comics No 1. Tunes: The 80s are back – again. After the return of acid wash jeans and mesh tops was bound to come a return of the sounds. Enter the Chromatics, a spiky, slick, synth and guitar four-piece from the home of the uber hip, Portland Oregon. Their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m on fire is a plaintive call to the terminally cool and their 2010 EP In the City is the perfect addition to any ultimate summer soundtrack. The box: Game of Thrones is coming. Is there anyone left in the country who hasn’t, ahem, already seen this incredible series from HBO about an imaginary world permanently on the verge of a literal and metaphoric winter. If so, it is about to air on Sky’s new channel, SoHo, which starts October 31. Like watching the medieval War of the Roses through a dark, magical prism, the penultimate episode of GoT may well be one of the best hours of TV you’ll ever see. Event: Halloween. Lollies, costumes, scary stories and staying up late because of daylight savings. What’s not to adore about this almostholiday? Although they do it bigger and better in the States, we have our own brand of spooky fun here with The Warehouse loading up on cheap and creepy decorations and costumes. But you’ve still got a couple of weeks to create your perfect Bride of Frankenstein, Swamp Thing or Naughty Vampire costume, so start now.
