Stab­bing wit­nesses sought

Porirua po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a stab­bing which oc­curred in Can­nons Creek late at night last Wed­nes­day.

CIB De­tec­tive Gareth Barnes says that about 11.50pm on Novem­ber 30, a 36-year-old man was stabbed in the back with a knife near the in­ter­sec­tion of Wind­ley St and Cham­pion St.

‘‘As a re­sult of the stab­bing, the vic­tim is in a sta­ble con- di­tion in Welling­ton Hos­pi­tal with in­ter­nal in­juries, which are not life-threat­en­ing.’’

Mr Barnes says that at the time of the at­tack, the vic­tim was with a wo­man, de­scribed as a Maori of thin build.

‘‘We’d like to hear from any­one who may have seen or heard this cou­ple walk­ing down Wind­ley St to­wards Cham­pion St . . . or any­one who has any in­for­ma­tion which may as­sist our in­ves­ti­ga­tion.’’

The vic­tim is of Pa­cific Is­land de­scent, of solid build, short in height with a shaven head.
