Christmas feast for all
There’s room at the inn – or church – for all this Christmas Day, as St Mary’s Anglican Church in Whitby plan to roll out roasts and plum puds to welcome all-comers for a Christmas lunch.
‘‘It’s just about providing fellowship and giving at Christmas, and the greatest thing I think we can do is show the love,’’ organiser Tanya Macdonald says.
Parishioners are rustling up roasts, hot veg, salads, a spread of traditional puddings, and treats for the littlies, and preparing to welcome all guests.
‘‘It’s for anybody, it is open – anybody who’s alone, anyone who has no family to spend Christmas with, anyone who needs a good meal.’’
Transport can be organised for those who would like to attend from suburbs outside Whitby, Mrs Macdonald says, with drivers willing to make pick-ups around Porirua.
While no-one will be turned away, for catering it would be handy to hear from those who plan on attending, she says.
‘‘Hopefully it’s going to be very nice and jolly, we’ll have Christmas carols and christmas crackers, and if there’s lots of children we’ll do a lolly scramble, and make a big thing for them.’’
To contact Tanya Macdonald please phone 237 7045 or call the St Mary’s office on 234 7088. Lunch will be held at noon Christmas Day. The church is on Discovery Dr, beside Whitby Mall.
Community banquet: Tanya Macdonald of St Mary’s Church is looking forward to putting on a full spread of traditional Christmas fare for all on December 25.
