The eyes and ears of the Tawa community have new wheels with the commissioning of a new Tawa Community Patrol car.

The patrol began in 2008 and now has about 30 members who take turns keeping an eye out for any trouble in the community and maintain a visible presence, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Up until now volunteers have been using their own cars, and much of their own petrol, clocking up 10,500 kilometres to date.

The car cost about $9000 and the last $1500 towards the final figure – which will be used to install flashing roof lights – was presented by the Rotary Club of Tawa at a commissioning ceremony at the Tawa Community Centre last Wednesday.

The white Toyota Corolla was donated by Total Harbour City Guard Services with the help of Just Rust, North City Motors Tawa, Wellington City Council, Tawa Community Board, Nichecom, Lions Club of Tawa, AMI Insurance and Deneefe Signing System.
