Treaty class for migrants

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Settlement Support New Zealand is running a Treaty of Waitangi workshop for new migrants in Porirua this Friday.

The workshop is aimed at providing simple, accurate information about the Treaty to people new to New Zealand. It will introduce them to the contemporary debate around Treaty issues.

The resource for this workshop was created in response to calls from migrants, including the Refugee Council of New Zealand and the Federation of Ethnic Councils, who wanted to be educated about the Treaty.

The venue is the conference room in the Porirua Employment Hub, 6 Hagley St, Porirua. The workshop starts at 9.15am and finishes at 2.45pm. There is no cost to attend and a light lunch will be provided.

Organisers say the kit is not prescriptive in terms of what migrants’ relationships to the Treaty might be. It is a tool designed to be interactive and provoke discussion. It is not a workshop that attempts to inform participants about Maori culture.

To register for a place please contact the Settlement Support coordinator on 237 3578 or email
