Joy as kids get bikes

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

The smile on Chase Rickit’s face said it all.

The Whitby youngster was the recipient of a new bike recently, the culmination of a team-building exercise carried out by Cortell NZ Ltd.

The five children chosen from Heart New Zealand’s database for the occasion all have heart defects. Their parents were sworn to secrecy and HNZ family support worker Denise Newton said the kids were ‘‘over the moon’’ when their bikes were unveiled at the Martinborough.

The team- building exercise involved Cortell employees who were taking part in an event put on by Corporate Challenge, sourcing the bike parts and then building it. Safety checks were carried out after the bikes were put together.

Ms Newton said Chase’s face lit up when he received his new bike.

‘‘It was all his, he didn’t have to share it with anyone.’’
