‘Sell Titahi Bay council flats for $1’

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Ian of Tawa: The council doesn’t have the money to upgrade and maintain the flats. Private owners might but as the council wants investment in the properties and keep rents low for the elderly, they are suggesting selling for $1.

It doesn’t make sense? Private enterprise can provide cheaper services than the public.

Greybeard: Maybe the council should first: 1. Publish the current market value of the flats. 2. Publish the annual maintenance costs for (say) the last eight years. This would give the ratepayers some basic facts. Then 3. Meanstest the tenants. 4. Set rents at appropriate rates.
