Club takes title for first time
The Ngatitoa women’s premier 1 tennis team have taken out the Katrina Mihaere Cup in the regional interclub competition.
The event is contested over the summer season by clubs from Kapi Mana, Wellington and Hutt Valley.
The Ngatitoa team is Shaani Te Mata-frost, Sade Atkinson, Kelly Southwood, Tracey Epps, Megan Small and Dana Hiri, five of whom are still under 19 years old.
It is the first time the Ngatitoa club has won the top grade in interclub and is the first time in over a decade that a Porirua club has won the top grade.
Ngatitoa was placed third before Christmas but lifted their game in the new year. They faced Wellington Tennis Club in the grand final, which they took out 4-2. After sharing the doubles, the local club won three of the four singles matches.
