13 schol­ars this year

Thir­teen stu­dents have been awarded Whi­tireia Sec­ondary School Leaver Fee Schol­ar­ships for 2012.

The stu­dents, all straight from sec­ondary schools in the greater Welling­ton re­gion have been given $4000 to­wards their first year of de­gree or diploma level study at Whi­tireia.

The stu­dents, who were ac­knowl­edged at a re­cent lun­cheon at Whi­tireia, are Me­la­nia Faraimo, Keenan Mas­ters, Daniel Raika, Nathan Wad­dle, Joel Hop­ping, Ar­ishma Singh, Rachel Find­lay, Amy Tay­lor, Tr­isha Wee, Miriam Sprinks, Agatha Brown and Letisha Phillips.

This is the fourth year Whi­tireia has of­fered schol­ar­ships to stu­dents in the re­gion.

Of the 80 schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ents, 13 have gone on to grad­u­ate from Whi­tireia with their aca­demic qual­i­fi­ca­tion, three of those have con­tin­ued on to higher ter­tiary study at Whi­tireia and two have grad­u­ated twice.

An­other seven schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ents will grad­u­ate at the end of 2012, while 40 are com­plet­ing their stud­ies.
