Poor weather dampened competitor numbers but not boaties’ spirits in Plimmerton Boating Club’s recent fishing and diving competition.

The start on March 24 was delayed for the 100 competitors and the second day’s activities had to be cancelled altogether due to strong swells.

The fishing proved to be hard, with only five snapper caught, among them one fine specimen of 7.73 kilograms landed by Bruce Odam on his boat Liquid Fix. Odam received the grand prize for his catch, a South Island cruise.

A good number of terakihi, blue cod, kahawai, butterfish and crayfish were also landed and bought by an eager public at a fish auction.

Foul weather friend: Bruce Odam took out grand prize at Plimmerton Boating Club’s fishing and diving competition last month with this 7.73 kilo snapper.
