A day of Olympic sports at Early Years Education and Care Centre in Redwood had the hearts pumping and the leadership skills flowing last week.

With the London Olympic Games just weeks away, complex manager Sarah Currie and her team – with plenty of input from the 26 three and four-yearolds – organised a set of ‘modern’ Olympic sports for the children on April 19.

Rugby, football, tug-owar, running races and the shot put were set up on next door’s St Francis Xavier’s School field, with the kids in five teams.

‘‘ The children were involved in all aspects of planning and it was great for developing leadership skills, sportsmanship and just learning about how to have the right spirit. Plenty of parents came down, it was a great day for everyone.’’

A medal ceremony concluded the events.

Pulling together: India Perez gives it all she’s got for her purple team during the tug-o-war at her childcare centre’s Olympic Games last week.
