Graduate wins radio award
Whitireia graduate Libby Greatbatch took out the Best New Broadcaster category at the recent New Zealand Radio Awards.
She was awarded two accolades in this category; the Best New Broadcaster Creative and Technical award, and the Best New Broadcaster Overall award.
‘‘This is a fantastic effort and achievement for Libby,’’ said Jono Manks, programme manager for the New Zealand Radio Training School at Whitireia.
Ms Greatbatch is a creative writer for The Radio Network in Wellington and won the gong ahead of 11 other finalists.
Four Whitireia commercial broadcasting graduates were finalists in this year’s awards. Along with Ms Greatbatch, Debra Sandford was a finalist in the Associated Craft category, Emma Helleur was a finalist in the Best New Broadcaster – Promotions category and George Berry was a finalist in the Best New Broadcaster – Journalist category.
‘‘We were absolutely thrilled to have four of our graduates as finalists in this year’s radio awards,’’ said Mr Manks. ‘‘To have their talent recognised this early in their careers is very exciting.’’
The Certificate in Commercial Broadcasting is a six- month, fulltime programme run from the Whitireia Media Training Centre in Wellington City and also in Auckland.
