Hundreds of ratepayers have been billed too low for their rates in a glitch that wiped $ 102,000 off Porirua City Council’s rates invoices.

A total of 445 residential and commercial ratepayers from across the city – 2.5 per cent of the city’s 17,500 ratepayers – were undercharged between $20 and $7000 for their May 22 rates bill, the last of five instalments for their 2011-12 rates.

Of the 445 under-charged, 294 pay their rates by direct debit and paid the correct rates. The remaining 151 ratepayers have been given until June 8 to make up the shortfall.
