Winter dip planned
Start taking cold baths now – you’ll want to be well trained to withstand icy waters on June 17 when Plimmerton’s annual midwinter dip rolls around.
This year marks the 16th anniversary of the popular community event, which serves as a fundraiser for Plimmerton Kindergarten. Money collected would once again go towards sprucing up the kindy’s outdoor play area, organiser Hannah Henderson said.
Last year the kindy raised $5500, which paid for a new slide and playground improvements.
The tide should be out for the dip, so there will be races along the beach, sandcastle competitions, raffles, sausage sizzle and best-dressed prizes.
Water lovers will have an excuse to stay in the water, as swimming races will also be held for the first time.
Plimmerton mid-winter dip, Sunday, June 17 at Karehana Bay beach. Registration at 11am, dip at noon. Gold coin donation.
