The Porirua Vikings registered a 32- 24 win over University on Saturday, while St George registered a win against Petone.

In the second half, Jon Masaga and Anton Wereta crossed and the game looked sewn up, with the Vikings ahead by 14 with just under 20 minutes to play.

University ensured a tense finish with two late tries.

St George notched up their second win of the season with aplomb, although they were down 18-4 to Petone at halftime. The second half was among the best they have played all year, as they piled on 30 unanswered points at Cannons Creek Park to win 34-22.

The Vikings’ win means they have a two-point lead at the top of the standings over Randwick, with Te Aroha and Wainuiomata a further point back in third.

The Dragons play Randwick on Saturday, while the Vikings take on Wainui.

Last week’s rugby league report was accompanied by a photograph of Nooroa Akavi scoring a try for the Vikings’ reserve grade side, not the premiers. The error is regretted.
