Russell School’s new playground was officially opened on Friday, with students giving it a test run almost immediately.
Following a waiata from Russell pupils and an introduction from principal Sose Annandale, the honour of cutting the ribbon was given to year 6 student Corey Te Hauora.
Rotary Club of Porirua Sundown contributed $19,000 towards the project. President Kylie Wihapi said there was a huge incentive to support their own members.
‘‘It’s great to see the completion of the playground. I had a clear view before I was inducted as president as to what project I wanted to achieve and this was it.’’
Ex- Russell student and Pub Charity senior manager Tony Giles also presented a cheque for $20,000 from his organisation towards the purchase of electronic whiteboards.
Playtime: Zung Bawm La Htaw, Tehina Akeimo, Ruana Crawshaw, Miti Leota, Kingston Boag, Eli Blackshaw, Augustino Aukusotino Fiu, Roget Boag and Corey Te Hauora give the playground a whirl.
