Rus­sell School’s new play­ground was of­fi­cially opened on Fri­day, with stu­dents giv­ing it a test run al­most im­me­di­ately.

Fol­low­ing a wa­iata from Rus­sell pupils and an in­tro­duc­tion from prin­ci­pal Sose An­nan­dale, the hon­our of cut­ting the rib­bon was given to year 6 stu­dent Corey Te Hauora.

Ro­tary Club of Porirua Sun­down con­trib­uted $19,000 to­wards the pro­ject. Pres­i­dent Kylie Wi­hapi said there was a huge in­cen­tive to sup­port their own mem­bers.

‘‘It’s great to see the com­ple­tion of the play­ground. I had a clear view be­fore I was in­ducted as pres­i­dent as to what pro­ject I wanted to achieve and this was it.’’

Ex- Rus­sell stu­dent and Pub Char­ity se­nior man­ager Tony Giles also pre­sented a cheque for $20,000 from his or­gan­i­sa­tion to­wards the pur­chase of elec­tronic white­boards.

Play­time: Zung Bawm La Htaw, Te­hina Akeimo, Ruana Craw­shaw, Miti Leota, Kingston Boag, Eli Black­shaw, Au­gustino Auku­sotino Fiu, Ro­get Boag and Corey Te Hauora give the play­ground a whirl.
