Pas­sion pays off

Marie Fin­kle, a re­cent grad­u­ate of the Whi­tireia cer­tifi­cate in pro­fes­sional cook­ery pro­gramme, has been awarded a pres­ti­gious City & Guilds Medal for Ex­cel­lence.

The medal was awarded for dis­tinc­tion in her stud­ies in the City & Guilds cer­tifi­cate in food prepa­ra­tion, Ms Fin­kle com­ing in the top 1 per cent in the world. She se­cured the top mark for her year of study.

Hun­dreds of stu­dents in­ter­na­tion­ally study this cer­tifi­cate ev­ery year. For Ms Fin­kle to achieve at this level is out­stand­ing, said Whi­tireia pro­fes­sional cook­ery pro­gramme man­ager Liz Water­house.

‘‘This medal is true tes­ta­ment to her abil­ity.’’

Sixty medals for ex­cel­lence have been awarded at this level world­wide.

The City & Guilds Medals for Ex­cel­lence has been run­ning for more than 100 years. It recog­nises the achieve­ments of stu­dents who pro­duce ex­cep­tional work, or over­come the odds to achieve their goals.

Ms Fin­kle at­tributes her suc­cess to her tu­tors.

‘‘ Re­ceiv­ing this medal to­day ce­ments all that I learnt at Whi­tireia un­der their lead­er­ship and the pas­sion I have for culi­nary arts.’’
