College explores fund options
Aotea College has missed out on Lotteries funding for a feasibility study to turn its auditorium into a performing arts facility. The school’s Board of Trustees (BOT) deputy chairman Nigel Sanson said there were $26 million worth of applications to Lotteries’ Community Facilities Fund, with just $6.7m in available funds. Aotea was asking for $20,000 for the study, which could rekindle hopes for a 500-seat centre in Porirua. Although disappointed, Mr Sanson said they were ‘‘exploring other options’’, but preferred to comment following the next BOT meeting on July 30. Porirua City Council has been asked to invest $500,000 towards the upgrade.
