Af­ter­noon con­certs en­ter­tain

Pataka’s win­ter mu­sic se­ries is in full swing, with strong au­di­ences at­tend­ing the first two con­certs the sea­son.

Mu­sic lovers hop­ing to es­cape win­ter’s chill still have two op­por­tu­ni­ties left to at­tend the se­ries. On Sun­day, July 22 pri­mary and sec­ondary school students from the New Zealand School of Mu­sic will take the stage. The fol­low­ing Sun­day will fea­ture clas­si­cal two-piece Duo Ta­pas, fea­tur­ing Welling­to­ni­ans Owen Moriarty on gui­tar and Rupa Maitra on vi­o­lin.

The Sun­day Concert Se­ries has been run­ning each win­ter since 2006, fea­tur­ing four artists each year. The se­ries was started by Friends of Pataka mem­bers look­ing for some­thing to en­ter­tain them dur­ing win­ter week­ends, or­gan­iser Meryll Evans says. All kinds of mu­sic styles have been per­formed.

Sun­day July 22 and 29, 2pm to 3pm in Pataka’s He­len Smith Community Room. Cost: $5 or free for Friends of Pataka and un­der-18s.

Cold day, hot tunes: Welling­ton clas­si­cal two-piece Duo Ta­pas will play at Pataka on July 29 to wrap up this year’s win­ter se­ries.
