Northern United clinched a semifinal spot in Wellington club rugby’s Jubilee Cup on Saturday, despite falling to Wainuiomata.

That result, coupled with Tawa’s loss to Hutt Old Boys- Marist, means Tawa miss out on the finals.

After trailing 22- 12 at halftime, with centre Alapati Leiua dotting down, Norths scored twice, but couldn’t cross the line again to take the win and give themselves a home semifinal.

They will travel to fierce rivals Marist St Pat’s home ground this Saturday to try and book a spot in the Jubilee Cup final. OrientalRongotai play Wainuiomata in the other semifinal.

Tawa were dominated up front in their loss to HOBM. The Hutt side piled on the points late to win 31-13.

In the premier women’s Victoria Tavern Trophy last round matches, Norths fell 24- 10 to Wainuiomata. In the semifinals, Norths play Old Boys-University. Wainuiomata play Eketahuna.
