Talk about lo­cal needs

A panel look­ing into the fu­ture of lo­cal gov­ern­ment in this re­gion will host a pub­lic meet­ing at Pataka this Thurs­day.

The panel, con­sist­ing of Sir Geoffrey Palmer, Sir Wira Gar­diner, Sue Driver and Bryan Jack­son, re­cently is­sued a pa­per fo­cus­ing on the needs of res­i­dents and ratepay­ers to stim­u­late dis­cus­sion on lo­cal gov­ern­ment re­form.

The pub­lic meet­ing is an op­por­tu­nity for Porirua res­i­dents to tell the panel how they be­lieve lo­cal gov­ern­ment can best sup­port their lo­cal and re­gional com­mu­ni­ties in the fu­ture.

Is­sues to be dis­cussed in­clude im­prov­ing community en­gage­ment, the role of lo­cal au­thor­i­ties in build­ing and main­tain­ing core in­fra­struc­ture such as flood pro­tec­tion and trans­port, and how to man­age costs and re­duce rates in­creases.
