Talk about local needs
A panel looking into the future of local government in this region will host a public meeting at Pataka this Thursday.
The panel, consisting of Sir Geoffrey Palmer, Sir Wira Gardiner, Sue Driver and Bryan Jackson, recently issued a paper focusing on the needs of residents and ratepayers to stimulate discussion on local government reform.
The public meeting is an opportunity for Porirua residents to tell the panel how they believe local government can best support their local and regional communities in the future.
Issues to be discussed include improving community engagement, the role of local authorities in building and maintaining core infrastructure such as flood protection and transport, and how to manage costs and reduce rates increases.
The meeting takes place from 6.30pm to 8pm. More information can be found at wellingtonreviewpanel. org.nz.
