Kobe Fleming showed off his squash credentials at the recent Wellington Junior Age Group champs in Upper Hutt, winning both the under-11 and under-13 titles.

The Whitby 10- year- old, ranked third in the country for his age, was too strong for Joe Smythe (Mana) in the under-11 final and defeated Joe Webster (Upper Hutt) to take out the under-13 grade.

In other results, Ellen Verry won an all-Tawa final for the under-17 girls group, beating Jessie- Rose Ward- Thomas, while Olly Smythe made the under-17 boys final.

The tournament had

66 entries, with players from as far away as Motueka, Marlborough, Masterton and Hastings.

Squash Wellington use this tournament and the Wellington Junior Open, held in April, to rank this region’s players and decide who will represent Wellington at the junior nationals in October.
