Kids baking

Gingerbread men will be mixed, rolled, baked, iced, wrapped – but hopefully not eaten – by children at Tawa-Linden Playcentre this week to present to their dads for Father’s Day.

The centre’s promotions officer Lee-Ann Newton says they recognise most of the children’s dads are busy during the week in jobs and ‘‘miss out on seeing their kids covered in paint, exploring playdough or interacting with their early childhood learning buddies’’. Because Playcentre supports learning alongside whanau and family, she says they decided to have a dads’ fun day with a weekend morning tea.

‘‘It’s great to get our dads in to have fun with their kids and the only wheelbarrows and spades they’ll need to lift will be in the sandpit.’’

There are still a few spaces left in the centre’s Wednesday morning starter session, catering for under 2-year-olds. Call 232 4598.
