With the exception of the last few kilometres at the Pauatahanui end, Haywards Hill is unsafe at 100kmh. Some parts of this hill are a death trap and 100kmh is not attainable even in perfectly dry conditions. Once again, the blame lies at the door of the NZ Transport Agency who are busy trumpeting their new Safer Journeys strategy.
There have been enough serious and fatal accidents on this road for something to have been done long before now. Sadly, it appears that the NZTA is bogged down in red tape and unable or unwilling to change the speed limit.
We’re looking at a potential death trap that no-one appears to be concerned enough to do anything about. If the NZTA aren’t interested in lowering the road toll, then where are the police, the National Road Safety Committee, the local authorities and the AA?
