Mayor impressive

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Editor,

We are a group of buddy patrols at Titahi Bay School and we are elected by the students to help around our school.

This year leadership has been a big part of our learning. On Friday, August 17, we got to spend time with our mayor Nick Leggett.

We want our community to know just what we got out of this and how lucky we are to have a young mayor who wants to listen to our ideas and thoughts.

We learnt that local government needs to hear from the young, especially in Porirua as we have the highest percentage of people under 19 years (25 per cent).

Nick told us to be thinkers, to challenge things and ourselves, and to think outside the square. He told us to look to people in our lives for advice, help, opportunities, guidance, and to help us get ahead.

We came away from the meeting with Nick Leggett inspired to attend some council meetings. We just want to say Nick, you are an inspiring leader of Porirua.

BUDDY PATROLS, Titahi Bay School.
