Ascot to speak up

Does Ascot Park warrant a village plan?

That’s the question eastern ward councillor Faafoi Seiuli has for the residents of what he calls Porirua’s forgotten suburb.

Mr Seiuli has called a meeting for Thursday, September 20, in the Rangikura School staff room at 6.30pm. Residents are invited along to see whether there is support for such a plan for Ascot Park.

‘‘Porirua has done really well with its village planning programme,’’ Mr Seiuli says.

‘‘ Communities have been enhanced and great public spaces have been created. It’s occurred to me, however, that Ascot Park hasn’t made its voice heard yet.’’

Mr Seiuli says developments such as the synthetic turf at Ascot Park require some community conversations so the best outcomes can be secured for parking, lighting and general community use.

‘‘Rangikura School is a natural hub of our community and it’s an inclusive place for people to come together,’’ he says.
